Electromagnetic Theory

A motion graphic video made for junior students on electromagnetic theory

06.2020

Project Brief

This video was made on behalf of my college physics teacher so as to "visually" demonstrate and explain the esoteric concepts of A-level electromagnetic theory for the junior students to understand quickly. It covers the chapter 26 & 28 in the A-level Physics textbook, and it captures and expresses essential definitions, concepts and rules in vivid motion graphics.

Production Idea & Process

Despite getting a distinctive grade in A-level Physics examination, I found the electromagnetic theory the parts that comsumed the most time during my exam preparation, due to its various concepts and enigmatic physical rules and equations that requires time and conceiving skills to digest.

After discussing with my physics teacher, and as a first-shot of practial use of my learnt skills in motion graphics, I decided to make an educational video that depicts these ideas visually.

To do this, I spent 1 week reviewing the textbook concepts, summerize them and then generate the script and plot for the video. Then I designed visual assets, 3D models and used After Effects and spent another week for the video production.

The Challenging Part

The knowledge, how to visually depict the idea needed to be expressed from the book, see for the quality of clarity and simplity. I reviewed the book in quite a few times, spent thousands of words in writing and summerizing, and tried to find out a video plot that contains concept explanation, examples, and most importantly, the connections between different ideas, like how one induces to another.

Outcome

Eventually, I came up with a plot that followed the order in the book, as well as examples and subtlety explanations for the parts that demand extra attention. Additionally, despite the massive technical problems I encountered during the production, I eventually conquered them and successfully made the video for junior students.
